English Composition CLEP ExamsGeneral DescriptionThe English Composition CLEP exam is created to test your writing skills in the english language. The test is 90 minutes in duration and consists of roughly 90 multiple-choice questions. This test is one of the few, if not only CLEP test, that has the option to write a essay section on top of the multiple choice questions. If the student chooses to take the exam with the essay section than it is broken down into two separately timed pieces. You will still have multiple choice but it will only be around 50 instead of 90 and you will only have 45 minutes. You will then use another 45 minutes to write the essasy section. Some colleges only accept this exam if written with the essay section so it is advisable to check with the college you are looking to transfer the credits to before committing to take one exam type over the other. Mark AllocationIn the English composition exam there are 2 main categories. The first is skills that apply to sentences. These questions will have to do with the grammar and structure of sentences themselves. The second main category is working with the context of paragraphs or small essays. If you are not writing the essay section the percentages break out as follows: 55% - Sentence Questions 45% - Context Questions If you are writing the exam with an essay section the percentage is as follows: 30% - Sentence Questions 20% - Context Questions 50% - Essay How to Study for English Composition CLEP ExamMany books exist on grammatical structure and general English composition that would be extremely helpful in preparing for the CLEP exam. Nothing however can prepare you more than practicing your own writing skills and having it checked over by someone knowledgeable such as a teacher in your family or someone who is good with grammar. Although there are many books generally written that could help your results in this exam, purchasing a book emphasized for the English composition CLEP exam will help you focus on the most relevant areas. |
