1. Chemical Composition of Organisms
Basic Chemical Properties
This is the online biology book. If you read every section in the book, and understood it, you would probably have no problem passing the biology CLEP exam. This sections goes over basic chemistry such as atom, sub-atomic particles, chemical reactions and lots more. This site is a great resource for all the sections. It is quite lengthy as it is basically a first year biology book on the web but the best part is this ones free.
This site is a great starting point especially for those that have some basic understanding of chemistry. It goes through some of the terminology you will need as well as bonds. This is a basic tutorial and you should do some additional studying on top of this site but it is a good starting place.
Chemical Bonds and Reactions
This page explains molecules and chemical bonds but you should already be familiar with basic chemical terminology like atoms. Check out some of the other sites if your note familiar with these basic terms.
Same site as above and again you should be familiar with basic chemistry terms. This page goes into chemical reactions and how equations can be balanced and unbalanced. It also goes into why chemical reactions are important to biology.
Properties Of Water
Infoplease: Chemical Properties of water
Basic chemical properties of water such as it's formula and what molecules it is made of. Does go into a little bit of some of the more interesting properties of water. The second page goes into the bonds of water molecules and why these have an affect on its properties.
The Biology Project On The Chemistry Of Water
A short tutorial but also very helpful in explaining some of the unique properties of water. Has some great pictures to help you visualize the molecular bonds.
Structure of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, acids
Basic Structures of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and acids
This is a great overall site and this section teaches about the chemical structures that are involved with the building of life. Fairly easy to understand and a great starting point to understanding how proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and acids all work together to form life.
Origin Of Life
This page goes over the different theories of the origin of life as well as the experiments that have been performed in order to test these theories.
